infrequent weather updates

Post by ajziii »

For some reason my weather temperature display rarely updates.
Is there a setting that must be changed in order for receiving more frequent updates? :)

Hi Tony,

If you haven't already done so you could enable this option:
Auto update weather.jpg
Auto update weather.jpg (72.58 KiB) Viewed 8052 times
Other then that you have to rely on your METAR station.
Which location are you talking about?

Hello, Manny.
Posting questions in this way will not gain you good friends.
I strongly ask you to be polite in our future conversations.

Now let me answer the question.
YoWindow gets the CURRENT weather reports from so called METAR stations.
There is no such a thing as live weather update in this case.
METAR reports are issued in a relatively long intervals 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the weather station.

There is also delay between the observation and posting the weather on the internet.
This delay is usually 5 - 15 minutes.

YoWindow is programmed to update the weather in 40 minute intervals since the observation.
Then if the weather has not been updated, YoWindow keeps asking for the weather every 10 minutes.

This is not a perfect algorithm.
Actually, a very simple algorithm.
We have plans to improve it.

But it works quite well for most people.
This architecture allows our server to serve the weather to 200,000 people a day.
There are 4,000,000 weather requests per day - 50 requests per second.

There is no way to control the weather update interval for the user.
This was a deliberate decision.
Because of the server load reason.

YoWindow is not a real time weather monitor.
However, you can plug a PWS and get live reports.
Get YoWindow weather app for your phone or tablet.

ok, but what means in YoWindows LIVE when you say: "YoWindow is not a real time weather monitor."

Is the Word LIVE 2 Hours after or something ? ;)

Hi Manny,

I think you could say LIVE means now, or as actual as possible if you like.
This instead of looking forward or backward some given time, which would resemble forecast (for a few days) or history (only about an hour and a half).

So all and all we have History, Live and Forecast.
You must have noticed that only Live turns Live green, otherwise it's greyed out.
IMHO all there is to say about this and as clear as it gets.

... with live i dont mean every 1 second update.

i will see my actual weather not older than 15 min, thats live for me, but yowindow is showing LIVE in green and updatet my weather only all 2 hours and more, that very old and not LIVE :)
only if i push F5 yowindow make a weather update, why only with f5 and not automatic ?

sorry my english, iam from germany :)
